Clinical Director, North Brisbane Psychologists

Dr Rachel Hannam has been registered as a psychologist since 2002. She completed her doctoral research on psychological burnout in 2006. She started North Brisbane Psychologists is 2012 and in that time, has grown the practice from two to almost 50 practitioners. In addition to helping individuals, parents and couples, Rachel helps teams and leaders to navigate the complex emotional landscape of workplaces and build coping and resilience strategies.
Rachel is a psychologist whose work is informed by an evidence-based approach to mental health, combined with an interest in depth psychology and the complexity of human experience. She is known for taking a thoughtful, exploratory stance in assessment and therapy, prioritising a careful understanding of each individual’s history, context, and presenting concerns before drawing conclusions.
In her clinical practice, Dr Hannam emphasises the importance of not rushing to diagnosis, instead allowing space for a nuanced formulation that considers emotional, relational, and environmental factors. This approach reflects a belief that psychological distress is often multifaceted and best understood through careful dialogue and reflection rather than immediate categorisation.
Her work focuses on helping individuals cope with complex emotional challenges, build insight, and develop meaningful strategies for wellbeing. She integrates evidence-based psychological interventions with a depth-oriented perspective that values curiosity, collaboration, and the therapeutic relationship as central to change.
Rachel maintains a strong commitment to ongoing professional development and stays up to date with current research and evolving best practices in mental health care. This includes engaging with contemporary developments in psychological science and evidence-based treatment approaches to ensure her work remains informed and responsive to new findings. In addition to her clinical work, she values supporting the next generation of practitioners and enjoys supervising early career therapists, fostering reflective practice, clinical curiosity, and confidence in their developing professional identities.
