Medicare registered Mental Health Social Worker

Megumi is an experienced Accredited Mental Health Social Worker supporting children, teens and adults experiencing trauma, intellectual and cognitive disabilities, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, emotional overwhelm, relationship challenges, and complex life circumstances. She provides a warm, collaborative, and person-centred therapeutic space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported.

Megumi has extensive experience working across community mental health, disability services, and the justice system. Alongside her counselling work, she also works as an Intermediary within the Queensland Intermediary Scheme, supporting vulnerable witnesses, including children and individuals with communication difficulties, to communicate more effectively within legal settings. This experience has strengthened her understanding of trauma, emotional regulation, communication, and the impact that systems and life experiences can have on wellbeing.

Megumi has a particular interest in trauma-informed therapy and supporting people navigating the impacts of complex trauma, attachment difficulties, burnout, identity challenges, and major life transitions. She values working collaboratively with clients to build insight, strengthen emotional regulation, reconnect with personal values, and create meaningful and sustainable change.

Megumi also offers counselling in both English and Japanese and enjoys supporting people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Her therapeutic approach is flexible and tailored to the individual needs of each client. Megumi draws from evidence-based approaches including Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, strengths-based practice, psychoeducation, mindfulness-based strategies, and person-centred therapy.

Outside of work, Megumi enjoys reading, travelling to Japan to spend time with family, hot yoga, discovering good coffee, and caring for her family’s much-loved guinea pig.
