Jenny Laing

MPsych (Org) BAPsych (Hons) MAPS MAAPi

Medicare registered Psychologist

Jenny’s positive approach will refresh you and give you courage to move in a better direction towards the future you want. Jenny’s techniques are flexible, accommodating, and respectful of your personal needs and comfort. She particularly embraces Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), schema therapy, solution-focused therapy, EMDR, positive psychology and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). She incorporates techniques from a variety of evidence-based approaches rather than relying on a single therapy.

Over many years, Jenny has gained a wealth of experience in counselling and coaching individuals to realise their potential in both their personal and professional lives. Jenny always had a passion for supporting people’s health and wellbeing. Before completing her Psychology Masters, she spent many years as a registered nurse, midwife and baby health consultant, often helping people to navigate grief and loss, life changes, stress, depression, anxiety, and relationship and parenting issues.

Jenny helps you discover your real self. She offers you a safe place to express your private thoughts and feelings. She enjoys working closely with you to address your current concerns and to equip you with skills and effective strategies that will allow you to bounce back from future difficulties and challenges.

Jenny loves to see and help couples to support them through a rough patch. She is Level 2 trained in the Gottman Method of relationship counselling and therapy at the renowned Gottman Institute. She has training in Emotion-Focussed Couples Therapy (EFCT) and Dan Wile’s collaborative couples therapy (CCT).

Jenny has a Certificate in Perinatal Counselling and is an accredited provider on Brisbane’s north-side for the Parent-Infant Research Institute (PIRI) which offers free assessment and counselling for perinatal and postnatal depression for parents with BUPA health insurance. As a former baby health nurse, Jenny loves working with women experiencing perinatal or postnatal depression or anxiety related to motherhood. Jenny is also a mother, grandmother, partner, friend, and the proud owner of laugh lines.

Jenny is a friendly and perceptive therapist who offers a warm and non-judgemental space in which you can comfortably communicate, gain insight, and develop new skills. She listens to what you say in order to help you clarify your concerns, confront barriers, and confidently reach your goals. Former clients of Jenny’s have left online reviews of Jenny’s approach here and here.
