Charley brings a warm, sensitive and sincere approach to their role as a Clinical Psychologist and Credentialed Eating Disorder Clinician. Working from a trauma-informed, client-centred, neurodiversity-affirming and strengths-based approach, Charley aims to cultivate a therapeutic relationship of warmth and acceptance in which clients may feel safe, heard, seen, and understood in exploring their concerns. Charley is experienced in supporting LGBTQIAP+ clients and is committed to providing a therapeutic space in which clients of all identities, genders, neurotypes, and body-types may feel safe and valued.
Charley works with adults (18 years +) seeking support for a broad range of experiences including (but not limited to): eating disorders / difficulties / differences, body image concerns, stress, anxiety, OCD, grief, trauma, burnout, life transitions, depression, and emotion regulation difficulties. Charley has a special interest in supporting late-identified Autistic and/or ADHDer adults to build greater self-understanding and insight around their identity and neurotype (but does not provide formal diagnostic assessments for third party supports/funding at this time). Charley is also passionate about supporting individuals who struggle with self-criticism to cultivate a more compassionate relationship with themselves.
Charley views therapy as a fundamentally collaborative process, and tailors their approach to each client’s individual needs. Charley draws upon various evidence-based therapies including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills Training. Charley is also trained in several evidence-based eating disorder modalities, including Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – Enhanced (CBT-E).
Please note that Charley’s approach to working with eating disorders and body image concerns is underpinned by principles aligned with body inclusive, social justice, weight-neutral approaches to health enhancement, and the Non-Diet Approach®. This means that the focus is on strengthening sustainable self-care, eating and movement behaviours, and healing from the harmful impacts of weight stigma and diet culture – NOT working towards intentional weight loss. Charley is passionate about integrating evidence-based eating disorder interventions with self-compassion, mindfulness, and embodiment skills training to empower clients to break free from body shame, reclaim self-acceptance, and foster sustained recovery.
If you are interested in booking in with Charley under an Eating Disorder Management Plan (EDMP), please read our EDMP FAQs for Patients & Doctors to familiarise yourself with the eligibility criteria and other important details about these plans.
Charley’s clinical skillset is also underpinned by their background as a qualified facilitator of the Mindful Self-Compassion program developed by Prof. Kristen Neff and Dr. Chris Germer, as well as their extensive training in facilitating Trauma-Sensitive Yoga through the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at JRI (founder, Bessel van der Kolk) and their advanced training in Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness with Dr. David Treleaven. As such, Charley is also skilled and experienced in supporting individuals to gently reconnect with their body, breath, and sense of self through accessible, invitational, choice-based movement and meditation techniques.
Outside of work Charley enjoys embodying self-care in the form of yoga, meditation, hiking, being in nature, and spending time with their menagerie of adopted rescue animals.
