Pia has worked for many years with clients of all ages and all walks of life. Before joining NBP, Pia worked in community settings, educational settings, within QLD Health, wellness retreats, and in private practice. Pia has a warm and fun disposition. Pia loves supporting people to apply psychological strategies to effectively alleviate anxiety, mood disorders, chronic pain problems, addiction, poor sleep, eating disorders, and other mental health issues resulting from life stressors such as loss and bereavement, chronic stress, post-traumatic stress, shock trauma, developmental trauma, poor health, or unhealthy lifestyle choices.
As a Health Psychologist, Pia has a special interest in the connections between physical health and psychological wellbeing. She is a committed advocate for those seeking an integrative approach in achieving mental and emotional wellness. Pia has a background in Nutrition and keeps up to date with the latest scientific developments regarding the impact of gut health and unhealthy lifestyle habits on our mental and emotional health. She is passionate about integrative health care. She can work with your GP to ensure a thorough understanding of you and formulate a plan that meets your needs. She tailors her approach to ensure you feel heard and supported.
Pia is a member of ANZAED – Australia and New Zealand’s leading body for health professionals in the treatment of Eating Disorders. She is particularly skilful with clients with histories of disordered eating, anorexia/bulimia, over-eating and binge eating, and body image issues. She will work effectively with other health practitioners to ensure all aspects of your life and health are considered. She can help you transition from unrelenting standards of perfectionism to the pursuit of your authentic and excellent self!
In this same vein, she enjoys and is experienced working with professionals at risk of executive burnout, and folks struggling with workplace stress and conflict. Pia can also work with older teens and adults who suspect they may have, or are diagnosed with, Aspergers syndrome or ASD.
Pia uses cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), emotional freedom technique (EFT), mindfulness-based therapies, motivational interviewing (MI) and interpersonal therapy (IPT) get to the bottom of your issues and equip you with the toolbox you need to address them. Pia is trained in EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) for food cravings and weight management. She is an approved Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) Supervisor. She has Advanced Training (Level 3) in the Gottman Method for couples therapy and can provide Marathon Couples Therapy.
