Nahum – whose name rhymes with ‘Graham’ – is a psychologist with a special focus on assisting adults, couples, and adolescents in finding (or rediscovering) joy and purpose, and productively bringing these into their work and personal lives. Nahum has been a fully registered psychologist since 2010, holds a B.A. (in Psychology) Hons, M.Ed.(Educational Theory and Practice), and is currently finishing off a second Masters (in Psychology).
This focus has remained constant throughout Nahum’s journey as a well-being practitioner since 1997, in a variety of roles. Nahum has a wealth of experience in private, educational, and corporate contexts. He was a School Psychologist for many years, working as Head of Positive Education and Senior School Counsellor at John Paul College in Brisbane. He has also worked as a Counsellor and Relationship Educator (Centacare), a Corporate Coach (including experience with Griffith’s Work and Organisational Resiliency Centre), a Research Assistant (QUT) and a Youth Minister/Seminar Facilitator (in schools across Australia).
As a counsellor, Nahum draws largely on techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and emotion focussed therapy (you guessed it – EFT). Nahum has provided professional development and supervision for many early-career counsellors and psychologists.
He has worked with individuals, teams and organisations, and has had his research on wellbeing, social connection and sleep quality, published in the International Journal of Social Psychiatry. He is an ongoing contributor to online wellbeing publications including the Flourishing At School blog.
These days Nahum successfully ‘juggles’ a professional portfolio that includes counselling, coaching, workplace mediation and speaking engagements – and a personal portfolio that includes being a father of two, a husband of one, weeding the veggie patch, and trying to jump as high as his kids on the family trampoline. Nahum has a warm and friendly personality and will make you feel immediately at ease.
