Kierra is a friendly and bubbly counsellor who especially loves working with children and teenagers. Kierra has completed qualifications in Youth Ministry as well as a Bachelor of Human Resources, and is in the final stages of her Graduate Diploma of Counselling and her Psychology degree. Yes, she’s not as young as she looks! Not currently being eligible for rebates, Kierra’s standard fee is the same as our other counsellors of $110 per hour.
Kierra’s life experience is what makes her particularly great with young people. Being a mum herself, having a history of caring for children, and being the older sister of 4 siblings, she has first-hand experience with a range of childhood and teenage issues such as anxiety, education and relationship problems, ADHD and drug misuse.
In her current University studies, Kierra is majoring in in child development, effective parenting, relationship counselling, and conflict resolution. She also has some training and a special interest in Non-Violent Communication (NVC) also known as Compassionate Communication, which was developed by psychologist Dr Marshall Rosenberg and is based on person-centred therapy.
Kierra is client-focussed and has a genuine care and curiosity towards her clients. She uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and play-based and art-based techniques for the younger or shy clients who need a little help warming up. She focuses on building a strong, trusting relationship where her clients feel safe and accepted.
As a counsellor, mum and full-time student, Kierra is too busy for hobbies these days! But when she does get quiet moments, she enjoys spending time with her partner and son watching the sun set over the beach and going camping.
