James is a warm and empathetic General Psychologist. He has a background in general psychology, vocational counselling, sport and exercise psychology, performance and motivation psychology, and crisis counselling. He can assist those experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, work/sports performance concerns, addiction, alcohol and or substance use, grief and loss, and overcoming other barriers to wellbeing.
James has worked with clients with anxiety disorders, depression and mood disorders, psychosis, and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). James has personal and professional experience working with people with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
He draws on his knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and utilises a client-centred approach to care. James welcomes all LGBTQI+ clients.
James completed his undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Queensland in 2016 before undertaking the Masters of Psychology program in 2018 with a focus on Sport and Exercise Psychology. He has worked with the Australian Paralympic swim team, The Queensland Softball team, an elite eSports team (Rainbow Six: Siege and Super Smash Bros), and state-level cross-country athletes. He is passionate about assisting people to find motivation and achieve their best in their chosen field. In his spare time, James enjoys playing guitar, riding motorbikes, working on his car, and playing golf.
James has occasionally appeared on ABC Radio Brisbane to discuss psychological issues and share his thoughts and advice.
